Yahya Abdul-Mateen II points to the Emmys after Wonder Man is cancelled
Marvel's Wonder Man will not continue on Disney+, and its star has responded to the cancellation with his eye on awards season. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who leads the series, reacted to the news by saying, "See You at the Emmys," a brief message that framed the end of the show less as a final goodbye and more as a turn toward recognition for the work already released.
The comment came after word that the Disney+ series had been cancelled, bringing Wonder Man to a close after a single season. No second season is coming, so the episodes already made for the service will stand as the complete run of the series, and any continuation of its story in that form is off the table.
That ending still leaves one chapter ahead: the awards conversation Abdul-Mateen II pointed to. His remark suggested confidence in the finished season and in the performances in it, even as plans for more episodes came to an end. For now, the focus shifts from a second season that will not happen to how the first and only season is received.
