Today's Fact

A Summers family secret that waited twenty-eight years for an answer — and was forgotten again within the same issue.

CYCLOPS GAINED A HALF-BROTHER GROWN IN A SHI'AR LAB — THEN A TELEPATH ERASED HIM FROM EVERYONE'S MEMORY!
The Featured Fact

In X-Men Legends Vol. 1 #2 (2021), Scott Summers and his brother Alex finally learn the truth about Adam Neramani, the bladed mutant called Adam-X the X-Treme: he is their half-brother. Shi'ar scientists grew Adam in a laboratory from the DNA of Katherine Summers — Scott and Alex's kidnapped mother — combined with genetic material from the deposed Emperor D'Ken.

The answer closed a mystery that had dangled since 1993, when Adam-X debuted in X-Force Annual #2 and Mister Sinister pointedly referred to Scott's "brothers" in the plural. Fans spent decades debating which Summers sibling Adam was meant to be, while Marvel let the thread hang unresolved through entire eras of X-Men comics.

Adam's bloodline also made him a potential heir to the Shi'ar throne, which made the truth too dangerous to keep. The Imperial Guard telepath Oracle sealed the memory of the revelation inside everyone's minds, Adam's included, and he went back to a quiet farming life on Earth — a Summers brother his own family no longer remembers meeting.

Why It's Obscure

Scott Summers keeps collecting siblings the way other heroes collect scars — this one arrived with an imperial birthright attached.

1993
A plural with a payload — Sinister's offhand word "brothers" in X-Men Vol. 2 #23 launched one of the longest-running guessing games in X-Men history.
2021
Twenty-eight years later — X-Men Legends #1–2 (2021) finally confirmed what writer Fabian Nicieza had planned for Adam-X back in the nineties.
THE THRONE
An heir nobody wanted — as D'Ken's engineered son, Adam could have been used as a rallying claim against Shi'ar rule without lifting a finger himself.
THE WIPE
Remembered, then buried — Oracle's memory seal means Scott and Alex embraced a brother and lost him again in a single afternoon.
