Today's Fact

En Sabah Nur quit Earth for Arakko in 2024 and advertised his own job — twelve mutants applied, and the interview process was a tournament.

APOCALYPSE CHOSE HIS HEIR BY TOURNAMENT — AND THE WINNER WAS CYPHER, THE NEW MUTANT WHO ONLY SPEAKS LANGUAGES!
The Featured Fact

Concluding that his methods were outdated and preparing to leave Earth for Arakko, Apocalypse staged a succession contest in X-Men: Heir of Apocalypse #1–4 (2024). Twelve mutants were selected to compete for the right to carry his mission of testing mutantkind on Earth — a field stacked with warriors, zealots and heavy hitters.

The winner was the least Apocalypse-like mutant imaginable: Doug Ramsey, alias Cypher, the New Mutant whose gift is understanding every language — spoken, written, bodily, alien, even the speech of the island Krakoa itself. Long dismissed as one of the weakest of his generation for having no offensive power at all, Ramsey outlasted the entire tournament field.

Apocalypse then rebuilt his heir with Celestial technology, and Ramsey emerged transformed as Revelation — remade in his predecessor's image with a marked, gilded face and red eyes, his strength and durability raised, and his language gift sharpened into a voice that compels obedience. The translator accepted the mantle on his own terms, vowing to evolve Apocalypse's legacy rather than repeat it.

Why It's Obscure

Five thousand years of survival-of-the-fittest ended with the job going to the team's interpreter.

2024
A vacancy at the top — Retiring to Arakko, Apocalypse concedes his methods are outdated and opens his Earthly mission to a successor.
Twelve
The tournament — Heir of Apocalypse pits twelve candidate mutants against one another for the oldest mutant's blessing and his Celestial machinery.
Cypher
The weakest wins — Doug Ramsey's only power is language itself — the gift that made him Krakoa's voice and, improbably, Apocalypse's chosen heir.
Revelation
Remade, not replaced — Celestial technology rebuilds Ramsey as Revelation: stronger, harder to kill, remade in Apocalypse's image, with a voice others must obey.
