APOCALYPSE TURNED HIS ENEMY INTO LIVING STONE — AND MADE HIM WRITE HISTORY FOREVER!
The Featured Fact

Long before he wore Celestial armour, the young En Sabah Nur marched into Pharaoh Rama-Tut’s capital with a grudge. Rama-Tut’s general Ozymandias had led the slaughter of the Sandstormers, the nomads who raised Nur, and killed his foster-father Baal. When the two men finally met inside the Sphinx — secretly Rama-Tut’s time ship — Nur’s mutant power had fully awakened, and he chose a punishment far crueller than death, in The Rise of Apocalypse #4 (1996).

Nur remade the general’s flesh into living stone. Then he forced the Eye of Ages, a device holding records of human history gathered from the 30th century, to pour all of that knowledge into Ozymandias’s mind in a single instant. The flood shattered the proud prince’s sanity, struck him blind, and left him with fractured glimpses of the future he could neither escape nor unsee.

From that day Ozymandias became Apocalypse’s eternal scribe: a blind stone prophet doomed to carve his visions into rock for his master to read, waking beside him across five thousand years of history. The man who once hunted the first mutant ended up as his filing system — immortal, indispensable, and never once free.

Why It's Obscure

Plenty of villains kill their enemies. Apocalypse kept his worst one alive for five millennia, turned him into office equipment, and made him take notes.

The general
The hunter — Ozymandias commanded Rama-Tut’s armies, wiped out the Sandstormers’ camp, and still failed to capture the boy he was sent to seize.
The Sphinx
The trap he walked into — sneaking into Rama-Tut’s ship to steal its secrets for himself, Ozymandias found Nur waiting for him among the alien machinery.
Living stone
The sentence — flesh became rock, eyesight was traded for prophecy, and a would-be pharaoh became a monument that could walk, carve and suffer.
The scribe
Five thousand years of minutes — every vision Ozymandias sees gets chiselled into stone, so each time Apocalypse wakes from a long sleep he can read the centuries he missed.
