WOLVERINE WAS ALMOST KILLED BY A ROBOT COPY OF HIMSELF AND A FIVE-YEAR-OLD BOMB WHO CHOSE NOT TO EXPLODE!
The Featured Fact

Logan once had to fight a machine wearing his own face. In Wolverine Vol. 2 #37 (1991), by Larry Hama and Marc Silvestri, Reavers leader Donald Pierce builds an android double of Wolverine in his Australian base and pairs it with Elsie-Dee, an android shaped like a five-year-old girl whose body is packed with plastic explosives.

Pierce planned for the double to lure Logan into a burning building, lose on purpose, and leave him holding a rescued child who would then hug him and detonate. The double began with a primitive brain and no name beyond Dummy, because Pierce needed bait rather than a thinker.

That scheme collapsed after Reaver Bonebreaker accidentally gave Elsie-Dee genius-level intelligence instead of a child's mind, and she used it to upgrade her partner and name him Albert, after Albert Einstein. In Wolverine Vol. 2 #39 (1991), Logan runs through fire to save Elsie-Dee, she fights her own detonation order rather than kill a man who risked himself for her, and Albert cracks Pierce's override code after raiding an electronics store for computing power.

Why It's Obscure

A killer robot, a living bomb, and a paperwork error in a Reavers lab produced two of Logan's strangest allies.

1991
Named For Einstein, Built For Murder. Elsie-Dee christened her partner only after raising his intellect past the level Pierce ever intended him to reach. Albert carries three retractable claws on each hand and a moly-steel laminate frame under skin modelled on Logan's own features.
THE GLITCH
One Reaver Hid His Mistake. Bonebreaker kept quiet about the programming slip because he feared Pierce's reaction, so nobody in charge knew their bomb could reason her way around an order. Concealment bought Elsie-Dee the time she needed to rewrite Albert instead of simply obeying.
AFTER
Assassins Who Kept Coming Back As Friends. Albert and Elsie-Dee abandoned the assassination, rescued and rebuilt one another repeatedly, and resurfaced decades later alongside Madelyne Pryor's Dark X-Men. Few weapons built to erase Logan have ended up asking to stand beside him instead.
