Today's Fact
Six years after the murder, a weapon older than the Celestials woke something inside the Unseen, and the Watcher stepped back into the world through the man who had ended him.
In Original Sin (2014), Nick Fury took one of Uatu's eyes and then killed him, and the other Watchers punished Fury for it: he was cursed to take the dead Watcher's place on the Moon as the Unseen, chained to watch and never interfere. What Fury did not know was that the punishment had bound a part of Uatu into him — the seed of a return, planted by the Watchers themselves.
The trigger came in the aftermath of Empyre, told in Empyre Fallout: Fantastic Four #1 and the backup story in Fantastic Four Vol. 6 #25 (2020). Studying weapons the Cotati had somehow obtained, Fury traced them to a makers' mark older than the Kree, the Skrulls or the Celestials: the First Race. At that realisation, the Watcher eye inside him flared — and Uatu emerged from it, alive, telling the stunned Fury, in effect, that he had questions.
Uatu wasted no time behaving like a man six years behind schedule. He rebuilt his ruined home on the Moon with a flick of his fingers, entered Fury's mind to absorb everything he had missed, and opened the Cyclopedia Universum, the archive of all any Watcher has ever seen. Then he delivered his whole verdict on the situation in one line — there will be a reckoning — and reversed the terms of their relationship for good: the killer became the Watcher's herald and agent for the war he could already see coming.
Why It's Obscure
Most resurrections need a cosmic cube or a bargain. Uatu's needed an eyepatch, an antique weapon, and six years of patience.
