UATU STOOD BY WHILE THE HULK STOLE A MACHINE HOLDING ALL KNOWLEDGE IN THE UNIVERSE — AND IT STRUCK THE LEADER DOWN!
The Featured Fact

The Ultimate Machine in Uatu's keeping was a transparent globe that acted as a conduit to the accumulated knowledge of the Watchers — effectively everything known, everywhere. In Tales to Astonish #73 (1965), the Hulk's arch-enemy the Leader repaid a debt in the most dangerous currency imaginable: having saved the Hulk's life by dissolving a bullet lodged in his brain, he demanded the globe as his fee, and beamed the Hulk to the Watcher's homeworld as a living thought-wave to fetch it.

Uatu's oath did the rest. The Watcher would not lift a hand to stop a theft from his own treasury, though he did move the Hulk's duel with a rival alien thief to a barren stretch of his world so his exhibits survived it. The Hulk won, claimed the globe, and the Leader teleported it home to Earth. In Tales to Astonish #74 (1965) the Leader set the Ultimate Machine over his own head, certain that all knowledge added to his enlarged intellect would make him master of time and space.

A billion sensations poured in at once, and even the Leader's gamma-swollen brain could not process the sum of everything. He collapsed, apparently dead, undone by the one prize his genius had never doubted it could hold. The Hulk tried the globe next, endured its agony just long enough to hear Rick Jones calling for help — a message Uatu quietly enabled — then abandoned it in the mountains. The Watcher came in person to carry his machine home, judging that millennia would pass before mankind was ready for it.

Why It's Obscure

He would move heaven and Earth for Galactus, yet for his own stolen omniscience he filed the quietest possible report: collected it himself, afterwards.

#73
The debt — The Leader dissolves the bullet in the Hulk's brain, then sends him as a thought-wave to the Watcher's world to steal the Ultimate Machine, in Tales to Astonish #73 (1965).
Hands off
The oath protects the thief — Bound by non-interference, Uatu lets the Hulk take the globe, intervening only to shift a fight away from his treasures.
#74
All knowledge, at once — The Leader places the globe over his head in Tales to Astonish #74; the influx overwhelms even his enhanced brain and he falls as if dead.
#75
Collected in person — After the Hulk abandons the globe in the mountains in Tales to Astonish #75 (1966), Uatu retrieves it himself and returns it to the Watchers' world.
