The being sworn never to interfere once walked into a cosmic courtroom and quietly ran the defence. After Reed Richards saved the life of Galactus, the Shi’ar put him on trial for every world the Devourer had consumed since, with Empress Lilandra presiding and execution waiting at the end of a guilty verdict.
In Fantastic Four #262 (1984), by John Byrne, Uatu did far more than watch the proceedings: he spirited the Human Torch away on a secret errand to gather a defence, arranged for Odin to testify about Galactus’s origin, and argued to the court that Galactus serves a purpose beyond mortal judgement.
When testimony alone failed to move the assembled worlds, Uatu and Galactus combined their power to summon Eternity, the living embodiment of the universe, who linked every mind in the courtroom and let them feel directly that Galactus is a necessary part of the cosmic order. Faced with the universe testifying in person, the court exonerated Reed and sent the Fantastic Four home.
Why It's Obscure
His oath said observe and record. At Reed's trial he observed, recorded, recruited witnesses, and won the case.
