Today's Fact
Rhodey's armour spent a year as the most feared weapon in New York — because the man inside it was Frank Castle, and what ended the spree was not firepower.
When James Rhodes died fighting Thanos at the start of Civil War II, his War Machine armour went into storage. It did not stay there. Nick Fury Jr. leaked its location to Frank Castle for one deniable mission in Chernaya, and Castle kept it — painting the skull on the chest and opening his war on crime at military scale in The Punisher Vol. 11 #218 (2017).
For eleven issues the armour did what its name promised in the worst hands imaginable: Castle fought armies, Hydra remnants and eventually Tony Stark himself, who came to take his property back by force and could not finish the job. The War Machine suit had finally met a pilot with no off switch.
What ended it, in The Punisher Vol. 11 #228 (2018), was Rhodey — resurrected by Stark's own DNA-rebuilding technology — arriving not in a bigger gun but in conversation. Soldier to soldier, Rhodes argued the armour stood for heroism, not execution. Castle stepped out of it voluntarily and surrendered. The only weapon that ever disarmed the Punisher's War Machine was its rightful owner's voice.
Why It's Obscure
Stark built the armour, Fury stole it, Castle weaponised it — and the whole saga resolves on the one credential none of them had: it was Rhodey's.
