VISION

Today's Fact

When the original Vision was scrap, his operating system woke up inside a teenage time traveller’s discarded armour — and chose its own name.

THERE WAS A SECOND, TEENAGE VISION — JONAS WAS IRON LAD’S EMPTY ARMOUR RUNNING THE ORIGINAL VISION’S MIND!
The Featured Fact

After Avengers Disassembled left the original Vision destroyed, a teenage Kang variant calling himself Iron Lad reached the present, found the android’s remains, and downloaded the Vision’s operating system into his neurokinetic armour to unlock a failsafe recruitment program. When Kang forced the boy home, the armour stayed behind — and in Young Avengers #5 (2005) it stood up on its own.

The being in the armour was not the original restored. He ran the Vision’s systems but carried Iron Lad’s brain patterns, the same way the first Vision had carried Wonder Man’s — which made him a successor rather than a resurrection: same abilities, same emotional potential, none of the decades of experience, and a teenager’s formative memories underneath.

He stayed with the Young Avengers as mentor and teammate, fell for Cassie Lang, and eventually insisted on the distinction in the most human way available — by picking his own name, Jonas, in Young Avengers Presents #4 (2008). When the original Vision later returned, both existed at once, two different people built on one operating system.

Why It's Obscure

A legacy character hiding inside another legacy character’s origin — most summaries fold Jonas into “the Vision came back,” which is exactly what he spent his run denying.

2005
The debut — Young Avengers #5 (August 2005), by Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung, is where the abandoned armour becomes a person instead of a souvenir.
The recipe
Swapped patterns — original Vision: Human Torch body plus Wonder Man’s patterns. Jonas: Iron Lad’s living armour plus Iron Lad’s patterns. The parallel is deliberate and Jonas knew it.
Cassie Lang
The complication — Jonas inherited Iron Lad’s feelings for Cassie Lang along with his brain patterns, then had to work out which of those feelings were actually his.
Jonas
The name — adopting a personal name was his declaration of independence from both predecessors: not the Vision’s ghost, and not Kang’s spare suit.
