The Featured Fact

Among the five symbiotes the Life Foundation tore out of a captive Venom in Venom: Lethal Protector Vol. 1 #4 (1993), the unofficial leader was Scream, bonded to security officer Donna Diego. When the five escaped and begged Eddie Brock to teach them control, he refused and wrote them off as future Carnages. Scream took the rejection, and her unstable symbiote, home with her — along with a mind that had been hearing voices long before any alien arrived.

Diego had a history of schizophrenia, and the bonding poured a bloodthirsty second voice into a head that already struggled to tell its own thoughts apart. Her conclusion, reached in the Venom: Separation Anxiety storyline (1994–95), was absolute: every symbiote is evil, and everyone bonded to one deserves to die. She acquired a sonic knife — a blade of weaponised sound that could cut symbiote flesh — and started with her own family.

One by one, the hosts of Agony, Phage, Lasher and Riot were found dead, while Scream steered suspicion onto Brock. He re-bonded with Venom before her turn came for him, beat her, and exposed the killer — but the arithmetic stands: of the five children Venom refused to raise, the only one who fulfilled his prophecy did it by murdering the other four.

Five siblings were extracted together; four funerals later, the family's problem had a name, a knife, and a doctrine.

1993

Forced into the world — Venom: Lethal Protector #4 debuts all five Life Foundation symbiotes at once, Scream first among equals with her lashing hair of living tendrils.

Donna Diego

Voices before the alien — Diego's schizophrenia predated the bonding; the symbiote amplified a fracture that was already there, which is what makes her crusade a tragedy instead of a scheme.

Sonic knife

A sibling-killing tool — ordinary weapons slide off symbiotes; a blade made of focused sound could sever host from symbiote, and Diego used it on Gesneria, Mach, Cole and Hernandez in turn.

#4, 1995

The reveal — Separation Anxiety #4 unmasks Diego as the killer she had blamed on Brock, moments before she tries to finish the set with Venom himself.
