For decades, Eddie Brock believed his other came from a noble race of symbiotes on a homeworld called Klyntar. In Venom Vol. 4 #4 (September 2018), by Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman, Knull, the god who created the symbiotes, told him the truth to his face: there is no Planet of the Symbiotes, and there never was.
What orbiting travellers took for a world is a living prison. After Thor severed Knull’s connection to his hive, the scattered symbiotes learned from benevolent hosts, rebelled against their maker, and swarmed him in numbers beyond counting. Billions of them wrapped around him layer upon layer, forming a planet-sized cocoon that has held him ever since.
Even the name was a hiding place. In the symbiotes’ own language, klyntar means cage — and the species quietly let the rest of the galaxy mistake their jail for their homeland and their name. The Venom symbiote had been raised on the cover story, which is why Knull’s revelation landed on Eddie like a second betrayal: his partner had not lied to him so much as been lied to first.
Why It's Obscure
A whole species rebranded its maximum-security prison as a homeworld, and the brochure worked for years.
