The bully from high school became a Guardian of the Galaxy!
The Featured Fact

Eugene "Flash" Thompson spent high school shoving Peter Parker into lockers. As an adult he lost both legs serving in Iraq — and became the government's Agent Venom, bonded to the symbiote that let him walk again. Then, in Guardians of the Galaxy (vol. 3) #14 (2014), the Avengers gave him the strangest assignment of his life: go to space and serve as their envoy to the Guardians of the Galaxy. The symbiote went cosmic.

Flash fit right in — or as right in as a man wearing a living alien can. He befriended Drax, brawled with Skrulls who tried to steal the symbiote, lost control of it more than once, and flew with the team to the symbiote's homeworld, the planet Klyntar. There, the Klyntar cleansed the symbiote of the corruption that had always tormented it — the rage, the hunger, the madness. What came back was something new.

That something new got its own book: Venom: Space Knight (2015–2016), by Robbie Thompson and Ariel Olivetti. Flash, now an Agent of the Cosmos and intergalactic ambassador of Earth, swashbuckled across the universe righting wrongs — a double amputee veteran, a reformed alien, and a Guardians logo on his shoulder. The kid who bullied Spider-Man became the hero Spider-Man always wanted him to be. In space.

Why It's Obscure

From Midtown High hallways to the far side of the galaxy — the most unlikely Guardian ever.

2011
Agent Venom — Flash Thompson, decorated veteran and double amputee, bonds with the captured symbiote under a government program — with one rule: separate every 48 hours or risk becoming like Eddie Brock.
2014
Guardians of the Galaxy (vol. 3) #14 — The Avengers post Flash to the Guardians as their envoy. He takes to the stars, symbiote and all.
2015
Planet of the Symbiotes — On Klyntar, the symbiote's people cleanse it of its corruption. Flash and Venom emerge as something the Klyntar always hoped they could be: cosmic agents of justice.
2015–16
Venom: Space Knight #1–13 — Flash as Agent of the Cosmos: intergalactic ambassador, big damn hero, and the only Guardian who used to bully Spider-Man in gym class.
Trivia
The Space Knight look even got a Marvel Legends figure — complete with the Guardians logo on the shoulder, a detail the comics earned the hard way.
