Venom was a reluctant father — a doomsday cult harvested five symbiote kids from him!
The Featured Fact

Venom: Lethal Protector #1–6 (February–July 1993) — Venom's very first solo series, by David Michelinie and Mark Bagley — gave the symbiote a litter. The Life Foundation, a survivalist organization prepping for nuclear apocalypse, captured Venom at a Mojave Desert facility and forcibly extracted the symbiote's "seeds" to breed a superhuman police force for its underground utopia.

From those seeds came five spawn — Scream (yellow-red), Lasher (green, tendriled), Phage (orange-brown, bladed), Agony (purple), and Riot (gray-black) — all debuting in issue #4, "Deadly Birth!" Each bonded to a Life Foundation security operative. Venom, who had just made a truce with Spider-Man and moved to San Francisco to become a "lethal protector," suddenly had children to deal with — and a creator's instinct he never asked for.

It went badly, as symbiote family reunions do. The unstable Scream turned on her siblings, and the five-way family feud spilled into 1994's Venom: Separation Anxiety, where an increasingly insane Scream hunted the others down with a sonic knife. The surviving symbiote matter was later merged into a single entity: Hybrid. The 2018 Venom movie borrowed Riot and the Life Foundation plot wholesale.

Why It's Obscure

Everyone knows Carnage is Venom's "kid." Almost nobody remembers the other five — a whole litter of symbiote offspring created two years after Carnage, in Venom's own first series, by an organization of doomsday preppers who wanted them as utopia cops. They've been killed, merged, and mostly forgotten — but they got there first.

1988
Amazing Spider-Man #300 — Venom's full debut. Five years later, the symbiote's first solo series turns Eddie Brock into an antihero — and a father. Michelinie & McFarlane.
1993
Venom: Lethal Protector #1–6 — Venom makes a truce with Spider-Man (Amazing Spider-Man #375) and moves to San Francisco to protect society's outcasts. Then the Life Foundation finds him.
1993
Lethal Protector #4, "Deadly Birth!" — The five spawn debut: Scream, Lasher, Phage, Agony, Riot — extracted as symbiote eggs by Carlton Drake using sonic devices at a Mojave Desert facility.
Trivia
For years the five had no surnames, and the creative team kept mixing up their first names — Carl vs. Ramon got swapped repeatedly. Full names didn't arrive until 2007's Spider-Man: Back in Black Handbook.
Trivia
The 1995 video game Venom/Spider-Man: Separation Anxiety is actually based on the Lethal Protector storyline — the title is a lie. (It was also an inferior sequel to Maximum Carnage, which is funny, because Lethal Protector came first.)
