THANOS HUNTED DOWN AND KILLED HIS OWN CHILDREN ACROSS THE GALAXY — AS A GIFT TO DEATH!
The Featured Fact

Thanos fathered children all over the cosmos in his pirate years — then decided to murder every one of them. In Thanos Rising #4 (2013), the adult Thanos, courting Death herself, reasons that a true lover of death should never have created life. So he scours the universe for his offspring and their mothers and strangles the last of his children — by his own account, that is the moment he stopped counting how many beings he had killed.

He missed one. An Inhuman woman fled back to Earth and hid her son in the secret Inhuman town of Orollan, Greenland. That son was Thane, revealed in New Avengers Vol. 3 #10 (2013). When Thanos learned a child had survived, he disguised a son-hunt as a conquest: in Infinity (2013) his Black Order razed worlds demanding a “tribute” of the heads of everyone aged sixteen to twenty-two — Thane’s estimated age — or annihilation.

It nearly worked. Black Bolt’s Terrigen Bomb triggered Thane’s Terrigenesis, his new powers killed everyone in Orollan, and Ebony Maw delivered him to his father in a containment suit. Thanos told him plainly that he would kill him — and Thane, in the event, turned the tables and trapped Thanos and Proxima Midnight in amber ‘living death’ instead. The one child Thanos missed became the one who stopped him.

Why It's Obscure

Thanos slaughtered his own children across the stars — and the one son he never found is the one who stopped him.

2013
Thanos Rising #4 — Thanos hunts his progeny planet by planet as an offering to Death, and stops counting his kills after strangling the last child. Romance, Mad Titan style.
THANE
The survivor. Thane’s mother hid him among a descendant Inhuman tribe on Earth — the one hiding place Thanos never checked. Every other child was found.
16–22
The tribute. Infinity #1–4 (2013): worlds must hand over the heads of their 16-to-22-year-olds, or be annihilated — a dragnet built to catch exactly one boy. Black Bolt himself calls the tribute a lie covering the hunt.
AMBER
The payback. Thane’s right hand generates amber that traps victims in living death; he uses it on his own father. The gift Death never asked for, returned to sender.
