Today's Fact

For one strange season, Marvel's First Family answered to a queen of Wakanda and the weather itself.

STORM WAS A MEMBER OF THE FANTASTIC FOUR — SHE AND BLACK PANTHER REPLACED REED AND SUE!
The Featured Fact

In the wreckage of the superhero Civil War, Reed Richards and Sue Storm did the unthinkable: they walked away from their own team to repair a marriage the war had nearly destroyed. Their replacements, announced in Fantastic Four Vol. 1 #544 (2007), were the newly married King and Queen of Wakanda — T'Challa, the Black Panther, and Ororo Munroe, Storm — who moved into the Baxter Building and took the Fantastic Four cosmic.

This was no honorary weekend pass. Storm fought as a full member of the Four alongside the Thing and the Human Torch, squaring off against the Silver Surfer and Stardust, heralds of Galactus, while T'Challa matched wits with the kind of cosmic machinery Reed usually handled. Ororo even wore the uniform — a black Fantastic Four suit cut to a queen's bearing.

The arrangement held until Reed and Sue reconciled and reclaimed their places later in Dwayne McDuffie's run, around Fantastic Four #550 (2007). Storm went home to the X-Men, and her season with Marvel's First Family settled into trivia — the brief, official tenure that makes Ororo one of the very few mutants ever to hold membership in both the X-Men and the Fantastic Four.

Why It's Obscure

Everyone lists her teams as X-Men and Avengers. The Baxter Building chapter keeps slipping off the résumé.

2007
A marriage and a roster change — Storm and T'Challa wed in Black Panther's title, then stepped straight into the FF's empty chairs after Civil War.
FF #544
The debut — Dwayne McDuffie's Fantastic Four #544 (2007) installs the royal couple as the new half of the Four.
Cosmic first shift
Heralds at the door — the new Four's opening trials included Galactus's heralds, Silver Surfer and Stardust — a baptism by cosmic fire.
FF #550
The handover — Reed and Sue returned within the year, closing the shortest and strangest royal tenure in FF history.
