Today's Fact
Before the Guardians, Peter Quill fought a war with Kree hardware wired into his skull — until the enemy made that hardware a liability.
In the years after the disaster that put him in the Kyln prison, Peter Quill chose to have cybernetic implants fitted: a replacement left eye that could read the whole energy spectrum, and a memory chip in his brain that gave him total, word-perfect recall. The man with no powers had bought himself a pair of them, and by his own later admission the choice was partly about running away from being merely human.
The hardware served him through the Annihilation War, where he fought beside Nova as the United Front ground down Annihilus's swarm. When the war ended, Ronan put him in charge of rebuilding the shattered Kree defence network on Hala — a job that leant entirely on the systems wired into his head.
Then came the Phalanx. The techno-organic conquerors of Annihilation: Conquest — Star-Lord #1 (2007) could infect and subvert advanced technology itself, which turned Quill's implants from assets into open doors. To lead the Kree resistance's dirty-dozen mission, Peter had every implant surgically removed on Aladon Prime — surrendering his perfect memory and spectrum sight, and relearning how to aim like an ordinary man.
Why It's Obscure
The galaxy's most famous outlaw once had the receipts for everything — stored, literally, in his head.
