Peter Parker has sold photographs of himself, wrestled for cash and run a tech company, yet his most quietly radical job began with a trip down memory lane. In The Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 2 #30–#31 (2001), opening J. Michael Straczynski’s run with the “Coming Home” arc, Peter returned to Midtown High School in Queens — the school where a radioactive spider rewrote his life — not as a student, but to apply for work.
Aunt May planted the idea over breakfast: the run-down school was hiring professionals to teach a class or two each week, and the vulnerable kids there were not getting the breaks Peter once had. He applied under a work-experience teaching credential, and his very first visit was interrupted when his spider-sense picked out a student gunman entering the building. Peter cleared the nearby pupils into a science lab, talked a bullied boy named Joey into mixing chemicals for a smoke diversion, and stopped the shooter — all before the paperwork was finished.
When the shaken science teacher quit on the spot, Peter stepped into the vacancy and introduced himself as Midtown’s new science teacher. The classroom became his base through the same arc that introduced Ezekiel Sims, a wealthy stranger with spider-like powers who insisted Peter’s gift might be mystical rather than merely radioactive, and Morlun, the totem-hunting predator Ezekiel warned was already on his trail.
Why It's Obscure
The webslinger’s steadiest paycheck came with a seating chart, a lab bench and absolutely no webbing on the syllabus.
