Today's Fact

Bolivar Trask built machines to find mutants anywhere on Earth. The one mutant he could never hold was living in his own house, drifting out of the century.

THE SENTINELS' CREATOR HAD A MUTANT DAUGHTER — SHE SLIPPED OUT OF TIME AND CAME BACK TO STOP HIM!
The Featured Fact

Before Bolivar Trask ever unveiled a Sentinel, his own daughter told him what was coming — by disappearing. Tanya Trask manifested a chronal mutant power as a teenager: she would phase out of sync with time, vanish, and return after longer and longer absences, with no control over any of it. Her brother Larry's precognition could be corked with a suppressor medallion their father built, but no device Bolivar made could anchor Tanya. One absence never ended. The family's hidden history was finally told in Uncanny X-Men #-1 (1997).

Tanya did not die in the timestream. Roughly two thousand years in the future, Rachel Summers found her drifting and pulled her “to shore”, then trained her as a disciple in the Askani sisterhood Rachel founded against Apocalypse. Tanya took the name Madame Sanctity — first appearing under it in Askani'Son #1 (1996) — and in time described herself as guardian of the sacred timeline and high priestess of the Askani, a role still on her record in Cable #52 (1998).

Then the Sentinel-maker's daughter used her power against his life's work. Sanctity travelled back to the twentieth century, arriving years before her father's Sentinel debut, intending to change the past so his creations would never destroy mutantkind. She failed to erase the Sentinels — but she remains the programme's strangest footnote: the machines were built by a man concealing two mutant children, and the first person ever to move against the project from inside the family was his own lost daughter, returning from a future his robots helped inspire.

Why It's Obscure

The Trask family secret reframes the whole Sentinel saga: the crusade against mutants began in a house where mutant powers were already at the dinner table.

Two children
A house divided — Both Trask children were mutants: Larry foresaw his mother's death at age five, and Tanya's time-slips began in her teens; Bolivar concealed both and grew more biased against mutants, not less.
The medallion gap
One fix, one failure — Bolivar could suppress Larry's gift with a medallion, but Tanya's chronal power defeated every attempt to help her, which is why she was lost and he was not consoled.
Mother Askani
Raised by the enemy's heirs — The woman who rescued and trained Tanya was Rachel Summers, a Summers by birth — the Sentinel story's deepest roots run through the X-Men's own family tree.
Sacred timeline
A priestess of chronology — As Madame Sanctity, Tanya guarded the timeline itself; Marvel's Loki coverage notes her “sacred timeline” title predates its famous screen use by decades.
