Today's Fact

Victor Creed was meant to be Logan's dad. Writer Chris Claremont, who rebuilt Sabretooth into Wolverine's nemesis, later stated his intention outright: father and son, which is why Creed always treated Logan as a sloppy imitation of the original. Claremont never got to print the reveal before leaving the X-Men books, so for years the idea floated as an ominous possibility hanging over every Creed appearance.
The tease finally made it onto the page in Wolverine vol. 2 #41 (1991), by Larry Hama, where Creed flatly claims to be Logan's father during yet another birthday ambush. S.H.I.E.L.D. captures Creed in the fallout, draws his DNA while he is sedated and restrained, and runs the comparison Logan is dreading.
The verdict lands in Wolverine vol. 2 #42: the genetic tests confirm the two men are not father and son. Nick Fury adds the cruel twist that Creed appears to have genuinely believed the claim, a delusion later stories blamed on the false memories Weapon X planted in both men. Claremont eventually used his original version anyway, but only off-canon, in the alternate-timeline X-Men Forever.
