Today's Fact
For decades Rogue's rule was simple — skin on skin, and someone falls. On her honeymoon, the rule grew a radius.
Rogue's absorption always needed contact — until it didn't. During the honeymoon adventures of Mr. & Mrs. X (2018–2019), while Rogue and Gambit were protecting the Shi'ar heir Xandra, Rogue's power surged past its lifelong limit: she began draining memories and abilities from people around her with no touch at all.
The change terrified her precisely because control had been so hard-won. Years after Professor Xavier helped dismantle the mental walls stunting her power, Rogue had finally learned to kiss her husband safely — and now proximity alone could do what her skin used to do, with bystanders inside the radius and no glove thick enough to help.
Xandra read the shift for what it was: not a malfunction but an evolution, a new stage Rogue would have to master the way she had mastered the first. The series treats it as growth with a price — the power that once isolated her by touch briefly threatened to isolate her by distance, until she wrestled the wider reach back under conscious control.
Why It's Obscure
The most famous untouchable in comics briefly became untouchable at a distance.
