The Featured Fact

Anna Marie's first family fact is a delivery-room one: Carrie, younger sister of her mother Priscilla, acted as midwife when the future Rogue was born in Caldecott County, Mississippi, as retold in Rogue Vol. 3 #2–3 (2004). When Priscilla later vanished into the dream realm called the Far Banks and the back-to-nature commune scattered, the girl's father Owen brought his daughter to live in Carrie's house, and the aunt who had delivered her became the woman raising her.

Grief ran that house. Carrie, who had lost her sister to the commune's mysticism and watched Owen drift, raised Anna Marie as a strict and authoritarian guardian, and the rebellious girl — already answering to the nickname 'Rogue' — fought both aunt and father until she ran away to live wild in the swamps. That is where Mystique found her, offered her a room and a meal, and with Destiny gave the runaway her second, far stranger upbringing.

Decades later, Rogue came home hunting the truth about her mother and found Carrie still in the house — which she had bought at auction after Owen left, three years gone by then. The reunion began in old anger, but Rogue absorbed Carrie's knowledge of the Far Banks, freed her mother's trapped spirit from that dream realm, and came back to her aunt afterwards to make amends: the midwife, the warden and the runaway finally on the same side of the door.

The birth

Carrie the midwife — Priscilla's little sister helped deliver Anna Marie at the Caldecott County commune, years before she had to raise her.

The runaway — Anna Marie fled to live rough in the swamps, where Raven Darkhölme found a runaway and gained a daughter.
