Today's Fact

The X-Men crossed the planet hunting thirteen prophetic books while the author was already living in Rogue's head.

ROGUE CARRIED DESTINY HERSELF — THE DIARIES EVERYONE HUNTED WERE INSIDE HER ALL ALONG!
The Featured Fact

The X-Treme X-Men splintered from the mansion on a single errand: recover the thirteen Books of Truth, the prophetic diaries Destiny filled in a year of writing that cost the seer her sight. What nobody on the team priced in was Rogue's own history — years earlier she had absorbed Destiny, and the imprint never fully left. In X-Treme X-Men Vol. 1 #17 (2002), that buried tenant stood up and started driving.

Recovering from a brutal beating, Rogue cycled through the faces of everyone she had ever touched — Colossus, Beast, the Hulk, Wolverine — before settling into Destiny, and with the seer's eyes she could suddenly read the future the diaries described. Sage named the absurdity out loud: the team had spent months chasing paper copies of knowledge their own teammate had been carrying in her skull since adolescence.

The knowledge came with a duel attached. The swordsman Vargas, who had murdered Psylocke while hunting the diaries, believed the books promised Rogue would kill him — so Rogue absorbed him mid-fight, matched him stroke for stroke, and raised his own blade over him as he begged her to fulfill the prophecy. She refused. Rogue called the diaries what they were — a trap that left no room for surprise — and walked away from a future her foster mother had written for her.

Why It's Obscure

Destiny raised Rogue, died before Rogue joined the X-Men, and still managed to co-pilot her most dangerous year.

13 volumes
The Books of Truth — Destiny wrote her visions for a solid year and went blind doing it; nations and killers alike treated the diaries as a map worth murdering for.
The imprint
Absorbed, not inherited — Rogue's teenage brush with Destiny left a working copy of the seer filed among her absorbed psyches, precognition included.
Vargas
The man the books doomed — Vargas killed Psylocke chasing a prophecy that Rogue would end him; her mercy broke the script he had lived by.
#17
Sage connects it — It is Sage who realizes the quest's punchline in X-Treme X-Men #17: the diaries' contents were accessible through Rogue the entire time.
