A DYING SKRULL TELEPATH TOUCHED ROGUE ON PURPOSE — AND MUTATED HER POWERS FOREVER!
The Featured Fact

During the Maximum Security crisis, when Earth had been declared an intergalactic prison planet, Rogue found the mutant Skrull telepath Z’Cann bleeding out after an attack by the Blood Brothers in X-Men Vol. 2 #107 (2000). Z’Cann was carrying Professor Xavier’s warning and could not speak it aloud, so she did the one thing nobody does willingly: she grabbed Rogue’s bare skin herself and used her telepathy to force the absorption through, deliberately pouring her memories into the one mutant built to receive them.

The transfer came with a side effect nobody predicted. Z’Cann’s telepathy amplified Rogue’s capacity to hold assimilated minds, and her mutation destabilised: Rogue began spontaneously manifesting powers she had absorbed years earlier, surfacing without warning alongside the physical traits that came with them — including Wolverine’s claws and healing factor — sometimes even wearing the appearance of the people those powers came from.

For a time Rogue was less a single mutant than a walking archive of everyone she had ever touched, with old abilities firing off unbidden. Control only returned in stages: meditation steadied the worst of it, and in X-Treme X-Men #13 Sage jump-started her mutation so she could call up any previously absorbed power deliberately. The borrowed arsenal finally burned out when Vargas ran her through, leaving her powerless — a whole era of Rogue history that began with one Skrull choosing her touch instead of fearing it.

Why It's Obscure

She touched one dying alien telepath for a few seconds — and her own body started replaying every power it had ever stolen.

2000
The prison-planet warning — In X-Men Vol. 2 #107, Z’Cann reaches Earth during Maximum Security with Xavier’s intelligence, is cut down by the Blood Brothers, and chooses Rogue’s absorption as her delivery method.
Cadre K
Xavier’s Skrull X-Men — Z’Cann belonged to Cadre K, the team of mutant Skrulls Professor X had gathered and trained, which is why a Skrull telepath knew exactly what Rogue’s touch could do.
The mutation
An archive that would not stay shut — After the transfer, powers Rogue had absorbed long before began manifesting on their own, complete with the donors’ physical features, turning her history into live ammunition.
2002
Sage throws the switch — In X-Treme X-Men #13 (2002), Sage jump-starts Rogue’s mutation so the recalled powers answer on command, before the Vargas attack burns the whole borrowed arsenal away.
