Today's Fact

For months, Marvel promoted a single X-Men wedding: Kitty Pryde would marry Colossus in X-Men Gold #30 (2018), complete with a dress, a bachelor party and a returned Chris Claremont in the tie-in special. Then, at the altar, Kitty phased out of the plan — she and Piotr agreed their love was real but the marriage was not, and the ceremony ground to a halt with every guest already seated.
Storm, watching, delivered the diagnosis that changed the day: a marriage needs two people who cannot face living a day apart. Gambit heard it as a checklist he and Rogue already passed. Minutes after the headliners cancelled, Remy LeBeau dropped to one knee in front of the entire X-Men roster and proposed to Anna Marie on the spot — no ring campaign, no teaser issues, no advance solicitation.
Kitty, to her enormous credit, insisted the couple use the ceremony rather than waste it, and Rogue and Gambit were pronounced husband and wife under the canopy built for somebody else, in front of friends who had arrived expecting an entirely different couple. The swerve launched their own series, Mr. & Mrs. X, the following month — a honeymoon in space, earned by hijacking a wedding on Earth.
Why It's Obscure
The most-publicised X-Men wedding of the decade happened exactly as advertised — the bride and groom were simply replaced at showtime.
