ROGUE

Long before Anna Marie's mutant gift ever surfaced, her parents' marriage was already a bonfire. Owen and Priscilla had run off to a back-to-nature commune in Caldecott County, Mississippi, and the commune fell in with a wild scheme: hire a shaman and use Native American mysticism to reach the Far Banks, a dreamland where the rules of the physical world simply stopped applying.

The ceremony went catastrophically sideways. Owen had intended to sacrifice his wife to the spirits of the Far Banks — instead Priscilla seized control of them herself, slammed the doorway shut behind her, and vanished into the dream realm for good. Her little girl grew up back in Mississippi under the strict hand of Aunt Carrie, believing her mother was simply gone.

Nearly twenty years later, in Rogue vol. 3 #1–6 (2004–2005), the truth came collecting. Priscilla's physical form had been destroyed on entry, but sheer fury had kept her alive in the Far Banks, where she ruled as its queen — and where, lonely, she had fashioned a dream-made twin of Rogue to raise as her own. With Gambit at her side in a realm where Priscilla's word was law, the real Rogue finally faced her mother, absorbed the dream twin into herself, and walked away carrying memories of the childhood with her mama that she had never actually lived.
