When Rogue permanently absorbed Carol Danvers in Avengers Annual #10, she took far more than flight and super-strength. Carol's memories, emotions, and entire personality came along too, and that second tenant never fully moved out. In Uncanny X-Men vol. 1 #182 (1984), an exhausted Rogue broke into a S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier to rescue Michael Rossi, Carol's former lover, while speaking, thinking, and flirting exactly like Carol, right down to calling him by Carol's pet name for him, “Ace.”
Rossi was horrified, and Rogue was mortified. She had flown Rossi to a Cape Cod house she remembered as her family's summer place before realizing the memory belonged to Carol, not to her. The issue spells out the arrangement plainly: therapy had restored Carol's knowledge of her own past to the real Carol, but the feelings attached to those memories now lived inside Rogue.
For the rest of the decade the Carol personality surfaced whenever Rogue was stressed, injured, or worn down, sometimes seizing complete control of her body. Rogue would come back to herself with gaps in her memory, on the worst occasions discovering she had dressed in Carol's old Ms. Marvel costume while the other personality was driving. The two were only separated years later, after Rogue passed through the mystical Siege Perilous (Uncanny X-Men #269, 1990).
