ROGUE SWALLOWED WONDER MAN WHOLE — AND LIVED WITH HIM IN HER HEAD!
The Featured Fact

Everyone knows Rogue kept Carol Danvers' powers for decades. Far fewer know her current flying-brick powerset comes from a second permanent absorption: in Uncanny Avengers vol. 1 #21 (2014), by Rick Remender & Daniel Acuña, Rogue absorbed Wonder Man — Simon Williams — completely. Because Simon is made of pure ionic energy, there was no body to let go of: she didn't borrow his powers, she took all of him.

So Wonder Man moved in. After Scarlet Witch's spell in #22 returned the other heroes' powers Rogue had stockpiled to fight a Celestial, Simon's powers — and his consciousness — stayed. For years afterward, Rogue flew and fought with Wonder Man's strength and invulnerability while he talked to her inside her own head, a full person trapped as a passenger in the woman who had absorbed him.

It took romance to evict him: in Uncanny Avengers vol. 3 #22 (2017), Rogue's kiss with Deadpool finally freed Wonder Man from her body — and, in the strangest parting gift in Avengers history, she kept his powers anyway. Current Uncanny X-Men writer Gail Simone has confirmed Rogue's powers today are still "Simon's," with only a trace of Carol left.

Why It's Obscure

Rogue's powers have a body count of exactly two permanent donors. Carol Danvers is famous. Simon Williams spent years as a voice in her head and a powerset she never gave back — and most readers never noticed the swap.

Uncanny Avengers vol. 1 #21 — Facing the Celestial Executioner, Rogue absorbs hero after hero — including Wonder Man, who lets her take him. Being ionic energy, he is absorbed entirely: powers and psyche. Source: Popverse, on Simone's confirmation.
2014
Uncanny Avengers vol. 1 #22 — Wanda's spell sends the borrowed powers home — except Simon's. Rogue "still retained the powers and the very essence she absorbed from Wonder Man," and loses her hard-won control of her touch in the bargain.
2015
Uncanny Avengers vol. 2 #1 — On Counter-Earth, the High Evolutionary's Master Scientist strips out Wonder Man's consciousness — but not his powers. Even the partial eviction leaves the ionic powerset behind. The powers were never really hers to return.
2017
Uncanny Avengers vol. 3 #22 — Rogue kisses Deadpool; Wonder Man walks free for the first time in three years of publication time — and Rogue retains his abilities regardless, restoring her classic strength, flight, and invulnerability for good. 2025
Still Simon's powers — Writer Gail Simone confirmed Rogue's current powerset is Wonder Man's, with "a tiny bit of Carol still in her." Forty years on, the famous Ms. Marvel powers are the footnote — the Wonder Man powers are the headline.
