Today's Fact

The Red Skull who opened Uncanny Avengers Vol. 1 #1 (2012) was a clone of Johann Shmidt, reawakened in the modern era — and his first major act was grave robbery. With Charles Xavier newly dead after Avengers vs. X-Men, the Skull had the Professor's corpse exhumed, cut out his brain, and grafted the mutant portion of it onto his own, stealing the world's most powerful telepathic gift for himself.
A powerless-by-design villain suddenly owned Xavier's telepathy, and he spent it on his oldest programme: hatred. The Skull used his stolen gift to spark anti-mutant riots, drive ordinary humans to murder, and bend heroes to his will. It took Magneto crushing the Skull's head in Avengers & X-Men: Axis (2014) to stop him — and even that backfired, the trauma and Xavier's latent presence mutating him into the towering Red Onslaught.
The graft was only undone years later, when the stolen brain tissue was finally removed during Gerry Duggan's Uncanny Avengers run. For half a decade of publication, Captain America's most human villain fought as one of the strongest telepaths on Earth, powered by the brain of the man who had dreamed of mutants and humans living in peace.
Why It's Obscure
Other villains steal weapons. This one stole the dreamer's brain and aimed the dream at a pogrom.
