Today's Fact

Pietro forgot to invite the Avengers, Maximus forgot whose side Ultron was on, and a toddler had to save the ceremony.

ULTRON CRASHED QUICKSILVER'S WEDDING INSIDE ANOTHER ANDROID'S BODY — AND A TODDLER STOPPED HIM!
The Featured Fact

In 1974 Pietro Maximoff prepared to marry Crystal of the Inhumans — and never actually told his own Avengers teammates, who arrived as guests of the Inhuman royal family and a little insulted. Before the vows, the villain Maximus tried to weaponise the wedding: he had rebuilt the destroyed robot Ultron as an ally and hidden him inside Omega, the giant android embodiment of the Inhumans' guilt.

Ultron, predictably, betrayed Maximus on the spot, seized Omega's body as Ultron-7, kidnapped Crystal and set about blanking every mind at the ceremony, in a fight running through Avengers Vol. 1 #127 into Fantastic Four Vol. 1 #150 (1974). Three super-teams could not shift him. The guest who could was not on any roster: Franklin Richards, the Fantastic Four's small son, woke from the coma his own uncontrolled powers had forced on him and blasted Ultron apart with one mental counterattack.

With the robot down and Franklin briefly — and, his parents hoped, safely — an ordinary child again, the wedding finally happened. Black Bolt himself officiated, and Lockjaw teleported the newlyweds off on their honeymoon. Pietro and Crystal's daughter Luna would follow years later; the marriage would not survive Pietro's later betrayals, but on the day itself, mutant, Inhuman, Avenger and Fantastic Four all danced at the same reception.

Why It's Obscure

A royal wedding with three teams on the guest list and the day's MVP asleep in a coma until the third act.

1974
Avengers #127 into Fantastic Four #150 — a two-issue crossover wedding, an anniversary issue, and Ultron's first appearance in five years, all in one party.
Ultron-7
A robot in a robot — Maximus rebuilt Ultron's severed head and parked him in Omega's giant frame; Ultron thanked him by discarding the alliance immediately.
Franklin
The toddler ex machina — Reed had placed his own son in a coma because the child's powers were too vast to control; Ultron's mind-blanking attack woke him, and one blast ended the fight.
Black Bolt
Officiant of few words — the silent king of the Inhumans presided over the ceremony, and Lockjaw, a two-ton teleporting bulldog, provided the honeymoon transport.
