The one offer Frank Castle could never refuse finally arrived wearing ninja black. The Hand — the occult assassin cult that worships a demon it calls the Beast — resurrected his murdered wife Maria Castle, alive and whole, and named its price in Punisher Vol. 13 #1 (2022), by Jason Aaron and Jesús Saiz: Frank would stop freelancing his war and fight it as the Hand’s own prophesied warlord.
The cult’s Archpriestess had been steering him since childhood, she revealed, grooming the boy who would become history’s most accomplished killer for a throne. In Punisher Vol. 13 #2 (2022) Castle was formally proclaimed the Fist of the Beast, took a redesigned horned skull emblem, traded his guns for the blades of the Hand, and began manifesting the Beast’s gifts — inhuman strength, wounds that closed, and the ability to see the sins of the men he was about to kill.
It was everything his war had ever lacked: an army, a cause with gods behind it, and Maria breathing at the end of every campaign. It was also a leash. The Punisher had spent decades answering to no one; now every kill he made fed the Beast, every order came from a priesthood, and the wife he had sold his independence for had been returned by people who deal in resurrected servants. Frank Castle did not join the Hand for power — he joined it because, for once, the devil’s bargain was priced in the only currency he has ever valued.
Why It's Obscure
Armies offered him ranks for years and he spat on all of them. The Hand offered him his wife, and he knelt.
