Today's Fact
Verified against independent sources. Issues cited below.
For three decades, one name covered two women tangled into a single life: Betsy Braddock's mind riding in the assassin Kwannon's body. That arrangement finally shattered in Hunt for Wolverine: Mystery in Madripoor #4 (2018), where the soul-drinker Sapphire Styx destroyed the shared body — and Betsy rebuilt her original form while Kwannon reclaimed her own.
The Dawn of X relaunch divided the inheritance for good. In Excalibur vol. 4 #1 (2019) Betsy picked up her brother's shield as the new Captain Britain, and weeks later, in Fallen Angels vol. 2 #1 (2019), Kwannon claimed the codename Psylocke outright — no qualifier, no apology — while hunting Apoth, the machine god that murdered her daughter.
Kwannon held the name through Hellions (2020), leading Mister Sinister's team of Krakoa's most dangerous mutants, and in Excalibur #19 (2021) the two telepaths finally stood down and made peace. Two women, two mantles, and neither one has handed hers back since.
Why It's Obscure
The codename everyone treats as one woman's has legally changed hands — and the hand-over stuck.
