Today's Fact
Verified against independent sources. Issues cited below.
Elizabeth Braddock grew up believing her father, Sir James Braddock, was simply a brilliant English scientist who built computers and died in a lab accident. The truth, pieced together across the Captain Britain stories, is stranger: James Braddock Sr. was a native of Otherworld, the extra-dimensional realm of Merlyn and the Captain Britain Corps.
Merlyn dispatched James to Earth-616 with a specific assignment — to father the champion who would become Captain Britain. He settled in England, married, and raised three children at Braddock Manor: Jamie, and the twins Brian and Betsy. That makes Betsy, like her twin brother Brian Braddock, part Otherworlder by birth, long before any body-swap rewrote her life a second time.
The mission only half worked as Merlyn planned. Brian took up the Captain Britain role Merlyn intended, while Betsy's inheritance surfaced as powerful mutant telepathy — a bloodline from another dimension expressing itself in a completely different direction.
Why It's Obscure
Fans argue endlessly about which body Betsy occupies, while her family tree hides the older twist.
