KILLED BY A SWORD — BROUGHT BACK BY HER BROTHER REWRITING REALITY!
The Featured Fact

Psylocke died in X-Treme X-Men #2 (2001) — run through with a sword by the villain Vargas. She was in Spain with Storm's splinter team, hunting the prophetic Destiny's Diaries, when Vargas — who had already beaten Rogue and Beast — turned on her. Betsy stood her ground to protect her battered teammates, and Vargas killed her for it. The X-Men grieved her, and that, for four years, was that.

Then, in Uncanny X-Men #455 (2005), she simply walked back into the story alive — with no explanation, no Phoenix, no clone reveal. She woke where she had died, and even the X-Men's scans said she was genuinely Betsy Braddock. One telltale change: her Crimson Dawn tattoo was gone, and with it the shadow powers it had granted her. Her telepathy stayed suppressed, but the telekinesis she had picked up from Jean Grey came back far stronger than before.

The answer finally arrived in Uncanny X-Men #462–464: her brother Jamie Braddock — a reality warper who manipulates the quantum strings that make up the universe — had reached back through time and stopped her spirit from passing into the afterlife. Jamie said he brought her back as a weapon against the cosmically powerful First Fallen and his servants, the Foursaken: he tightened the quantum strings of her body, leaving her mostly immune to reality warping, boosting her telekinesis, and making her invisible to the Foursaken's senses. When the X-Men were captured, Betsy alone slipped past their detection — exactly as Jamie had planned.

Why It's Obscure

Everybody remembers the ninja. Almost nobody remembers she actually died on-panel in 2001 — and that her resurrection had no explanation for four years, until her own reality-warping brother confessed to it.

2001
X-Treme X-Men #2 (Chris Claremont & Salvador Larroca) — In Spain hunting Destiny's Diaries, Storm's team meets Vargas, a swordsman who defeats Rogue and Beast. Psylocke stands to protect them, and Vargas runs his sword through her. She dies on the page. No fake-out, no last-page twist.
2005
Uncanny X-Men #455 — Four years later, Betsy is back, with no explanation offered. The Crimson Dawn tattoo is gone, her shadow powers with it, and her telekinesis is suddenly far stronger. Readers waited through the House of M era for an answer — and got a dreamlike one at best, until Jamie spoke up.
Jamie
Uncanny X-Men #462–464 — Jamie Braddock confesses: sensing the threat of the First Fallen, he reached back in time to stop Betsy's spirit passing on, tightened her body's quantum strings, and made her invisible to the Foursaken. He meant her to be his weapon. Family: can't live with them, can't stay dead without them.
The loose end
Comics never fully settled whether Jamie repaired Betsy's old body or built her an entirely new one — Betsy herself asked, and the books moved on. What is settled: she was dead in 2001, alive in 2005, and her brother's reality warping is the reason why. Death, for a Braddock, is a suggestion.
