Today's Fact
Charles Xavier's most dangerous legacy turned out to be anatomical: a telepathic brain with no conscience attached.
Charles Xavier died in Avengers vs. X-Men, killed by his own first student — and even burial did not end his story. In Uncanny Avengers Vol. 1 #1 (2012), a cloned Red Skull, newly woken in the modern world, sent his S-Men to exhume Xavier's corpse, cut out the dead man's brain, and graft its telepathic tissue onto his own.
The surgery worked. Overnight, a villain whose weapons had always been ideology and terror gained the strongest telepathic mind on Earth, and he used it the way he used everything: broadcasting hate, puppeteering crowds, and driving humans to attack mutants in the riots that followed. Xavier's dream of coexistence was being ventriloquized by the one man who most despised it.
The graft later swelled the Skull into the Red Onslaught of the AXIS event (2014), and the stolen tissue was not finally destroyed until Uncanny Avengers Vol. 3 #22 (2017), when Beast surgically removed it and Rogue — refusing to let any government keep it as a weapon — had the Human Torch burn what was left of her mentor's brain to ash.
Why It's Obscure
Plenty of villains have stolen Xavier's students, his school, and his dream; only one stole the organ that did the dreaming.
