Today's Fact
The reading of a will is usually where a life gets tidied up; Xavier's is where his got stranger.
After Charles Xavier's death, his students gathered for the reading of his last will in Uncanny X-Men Vol. 3 #24 (2014) — and heard She-Hulk read out a sentence none of them expected: Xavier declared himself married, and named his wife as Raven Darkholme, the shapeshifter Mystique. The document was genuine, signed, and entirely news to every X-Man in the room.
Flashbacks in All-New X-Men Vol. 1 #27 (2014) filled in a sliver more: Mystique had once carried Xavier's child, giving birth while wearing the face of Moira MacTaggert, and had tearfully given the baby up. In a timeline that has since been overwritten, that child grew into Charles Xavier II, a telepath who led a future Brotherhood back through time to attack the X-Men.
Then time travel tidied the whole affair away. When the mutant Tempus altered history during the will storyline's fallout, Xavier's life shifted just enough that the marriage was erased along with the crisis — leaving his students with a memory of a wedding that, in the corrected timeline, may never have happened at all.
Why It's Obscure
A marriage between the dream's founder and one of its oldest enemies should be famous; instead it was confessed posthumously and then edited out of history.
