Today's Fact

Charles Xavier preached trust louder than any telepath alive, yet for years he quietly maintained the Xavier Protocols — a hidden archive of contingency plans describing exactly how to neutralise, and if necessary kill, each member of the X-Men. The files surfaced in Excalibur vol. 1 #100 (1996), locked away inside a Muir Island laboratory where almost nobody would think to look for them.
The method was coldly scientific. Xavier fed years of Danger Room training records and medical data into his analysis, hunting for the single weakness inside each gift, and he wrote a file on himself as well — complete with armour designed to repel his own telepathy, in case the strongest mind on Earth ever turned against the dream it founded.
The Wolverine file showed how far the homework went: it concluded that the only reliable way to stop Logan was to remove his head and keep it separated from his body until his healing factor finally failed. Xavier never used the Protocols, and a rogue Cerebro later tried to weaponise them, but the damage to his students’ trust was done the moment they read what their headmaster kept in his desk.
Why It's Obscure
The dream’s founder insured himself against the dreamers — one folder, one funeral plan, per student.
