XAVIER WAS THERE WHEN THE JUGGERNAUT WAS BORN — SERVING BESIDE HIM IN WAR!
The Featured Fact

Before the school, before Cerebro, Charles Xavier was a soldier. Drafted after Oxford, he served in the same unit as his abusive stepbrother Cain Marko during the war in Asia — originally the Korean War in X-Men #12 (1965), by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, now read on Marvel's sliding timescale as the Siancong War.

When Cain deserted under fire, Xavier went after him — and followed him into a hidden cave housing the lost Temple of Cyttorak. Cain grabbed the glowing ruby on the idol and read its inscription aloud: whoever touches the gem shall become forevermore a human Juggernaut. Xavier watched his stepbrother transform in front of him.

Seconds later, enemy bombardment caved the temple in, burying Cain under thousands of tons of rock. Xavier survived, shielded himself, and returned to his unit believing Cain dead — earning, on search-and-rescue missions alongside Carmen Pryde, Kitty Pryde's father, the nickname 'the Good Shepherd.' Years later Cain dug himself out and came straight for Charles.

Why It's Obscure

Professor X and the Juggernaut read as natural opposites — the mind against the battering ram. They started as stepbrothers serving in the same unit in Korea, and every Juggernaut attack since traces back to what Charles watched Cain find in a cave.

1965
X-Men #12 — the origin issue — Juggernaut's first appearance is told through Xavier's flashbacks: childhood, telepathy, hair loss, war, and the temple. The Professor's greatest unstoppable enemy is literally family.
Korea
Brothers in the same unit — Xavier as a medic, Cain as a soldier; Cain deserts, Charles follows. Every Juggernaut attack on the mansion starts in that cave.
Cyttorak
The gem's inscription — 'Whosoever touches this gem shall possess the power of the Crimson Bands of Cyttorak.' Cain read it willingly. Xavier was the only witness — and told no one for years.
Shepherd
The Good Shepherd — Xavier's wartime nickname from search-and-rescue work with Carmen Pryde. Decades before he taught Kitty, he was already saving her father.
