Today's Fact
The mistress of magnetism holds an advanced degree in the science of the very force she commands.
Lorna Dane did not just inherit Magneto's command of magnetism — she studied it in a classroom. After leaving the X-Men alongside Havok, she pursued graduate work in geophysics, the branch of Earth science concerned with the planet's physical processes, its magnetic field included.
The pair settled in New Mexico and completed their advanced degrees while trying to live as civilians. Reference sources long listed Lorna with a master's degree in geophysics and some doctoral research completed — qualifications earned far from any battlefield.
The doctorate itself was confirmed in print in X-Men: The Trial of Magneto #2 (2021), and she was addressed as Dr. Dane in X-Men Vol. 6 #5 — making Polaris one of the few X-Men whose day-job expertise maps exactly onto her mutant gift.
