ODIN'S FIRSTBORN WAS A DAUGHTER HE LET THE WORLD FORGET — ALDRIF SURVIVED, GREW UP AS ANGELA, AND HE CUT HER WHOLE REALM OFF THE TREE!

The Featured Fact

Thor was never the first child of Asgard. Aldrif Odinsdottir, daughter of Odin and Freyja, was his firstborn and heir to the throne, born long before the thunder god. When Asgard went to war with Heven, the hidden Tenth Realm of the Angels, the Queen of Angels kidnapped the infant Aldrif to blackmail Odin into surrender. He refused to yield, and the queen appeared to stab the baby through the heart before his eyes.

Odin's answer was erasure on a cosmic scale. He used his power to tear Heven out of Yggdrasil entirely, severing the Tenth Realm from the other nine and letting its very existence fade from memory, so that for ages no one in the known realms remembered Asgard had ever had a tenth neighbour, a war with angels, or a lost princess. Grief, in the All-Father's hands, looked exactly like censorship.

The baby had not died. The handmaiden ordered to dispose of the body, Loriel, found Aldrif still breathing and raised her in secret as one of the Angels, under the name Angela. She grew into Heven's greatest hunter, hating Asgard as she had been taught, until Original Sin: Thor & Loki — The Tenth Realm, Original Sin Vol. 1 #5.1–5.5 (2014), reopened the severed realm. Odin recognised his daughter at sight and bowed to her. Angela, raised on the other side of his erasure, wanted nothing from him, and Heven disowned her for her blood. The firstborn of Asgard belonged to no realm at all.

Why It's Obscure

He lost a daughter, deleted a world to bury the pain, and met her again as a stranger who had been raised to despise him.

Firstborn

An heir before Thor — Aldrif, Odin's child with Freyja, stood first in Asgard's line of succession centuries before Thor's birth entered the story.

The war

A ransom refused — The Queen of Angels seized the infant to force Odin's surrender; he would not bargain, and she seemed to kill the child.

The erasure

A realm unpersoned — Odin ripped Heven, the Tenth Realm, off the World Tree and out of living memory, hiding the war and the princess in the same act.

2014

The Tenth Realm returns — Original Sin #5.1–5.5 reunites father and daughter: Odin bows to Angela, and both Heven and Asgard reject her in turn.
