The murder mystery at the heart of Original Sin had an impossible answer: the detective was the killer. Uatu the Watcher was found dead in his citadel on the Moon, shot, with both eyes torn out — and the man leading the investigation, Nick Fury, was the one who had pulled the trigger and taken the second eye himself.
Fury's confession filled in the sequence. The Orb and Doctor Midas had attacked Uatu first, robbing his armory and stealing one eye. Fury arrived to help the wounded Watcher and demanded the attackers' names — and Uatu, bound by his people's oath of non-interference, refused to give them. Fury reasoned that a Watcher's eyes store everything he has witnessed, so he killed the already-dying Uatu and cut out the remaining eye to read the crime from it directly.
The punishment fitted the sin with cruel precision. After Fury destroyed Midas by force-feeding him the stolen eye's power, the other Watchers passed sentence: Fury would take Uatu's place. He ended Original Sin Vol. 1 #8 (2014), by Jason Aaron and Mike Deodato, chained on the Moon as the Unseen — invisible to his old comrades, able to watch everything on Earth, and forbidden to lift a finger ever again. For a man whose whole life was interference, it was a life sentence in the front row.
Why It's Obscure
He solved the Watcher's murder by confessing to it — and the Watchers made him serve the victim's sentence.
