Today's Fact
Her first solo series opens with a kidnapping, a blackmailed inventor, and a woman volunteering for surgery no sane pirate would schedule.
Nebula Vol. 2 #1 (2020) — the first solo series in the character's thirty-five-year history — sends Nebula hunting a device called the All-Seer. She does not steal it the ordinary way. She kidnaps a young girl named Nira to blackmail the girl's father, the designer Lahar, because the All-Seer is not a weapon you carry. It is a surveillance implant, and Nebula wants it installed inside her own body, where no rival can take it from her.
The upgrade nearly was not enough. Even with the All-Seer in place, Nebula can barely hold her own against Devos the Devastator, the armored hunter Marvel bills as one of the most single-minded killers in the galaxy, who has taken up her trail. She escapes him — barely, and at the cost of a crash-landing on an alien world that changes the terms of the whole story.
When strangers pull her from the wreckage, the woman who had just bought herself total surveillance wakes up with the opposite condition: her memories are gone, and she no longer knows who she is. The pirate who schemed her way out from under the shadows of Thanos and Gamora starts her own headline series as a blank — a hunter with a god's eye in her body and no recollection of why she wanted it.
Why It's Obscure
An amnesia plot is the oldest trick in the space-opera drawer. Nebula's version lands because she ordered the surgery herself, an hour before the universe invoiced her for it.
