Today's Fact
Her species debuted nine years before she did — and by the time she arrived, almost all of them were already gone.
Nebula is not a Kree, whatever her blue skin suggests. She is a Luphomoid, from the planet Luphom — and her people entered Marvel history in Nova Vol. 1 #1 (1976) through Zorr the Conqueror, a hulking Luphomoid warlord who came to Earth hunting the legacy of the Nova-Prime. That was nine full years before Nebula herself debuted in Avengers Vol. 1 #257 (1985).
The reason the species stayed a footnote is Galactus. The Devourer of Worlds consumed Luphom outright, and the only Luphomoids who lived were the ones who happened to be off-planet when it happened. The named survivors in the record can be counted on one hand: Zorr, his siblings Kraa and Xira, and Nebula — who also claimed, without ever proving it, that Zorr was her father.
Zorr spent his exile hunting for a new homeworld for his scattered people. His most famous kinswoman never bothered. Nebula took the last-of-her-kind story and chose piracy, mercenary fleets and stolen flagships instead of a homecoming that could never happen — there was no home left to come back to.
Why It's Obscure
A pirate with no port: the extinction under Nebula’s career is the part of her file almost nobody reads.

The first frame is the original Nebula — long dark hair and blue-grey Luphomoid skin, years before the shaved cyborg silhouette — and the second is the kinsman who put her species on the page.
