Today's Fact
A herald of Galactus travelled across space to settle a debt of ash, and a telepathic look inside her past stopped his hand.
Imprisoned on Titan after her season of omnipotence ended, Nebula received two visitors in her cell: Starfox and Firelord, the former herald of Galactus whose homeworld, Xandar, her forces had devastated. Firelord had not come for conversation. He had crossed the stars intending to make the woman who burned his world answer for it in person, as told in Silver Surfer Annual Vol. 1 #5 (1992).
Starfox opened a psychic link between the prisoner and her would-be executioner, and Firelord saw what her life had actually been: the cruelty, the manipulation, and the long education in violence that produced the pirate who destroyed Xandar. Understanding did not resurrect a single Xandarian, but it changed the shape of his anger. The herald lowered his staff, abandoned his vengeance, and walked out of the cell having granted Nebula the one thing nobody else in her story ever offered her — mercy.
The pardon bought her nothing practical. Nebula stayed locked up, her mind continued to crack under the weight of Thanos's torture and her brief godhood, and she eventually slid into catatonia inside that same prison system. Firelord's forgiveness stands alone in her record: allies used her, Thanos displayed her, and Titan caged her, but the man with the best reason to kill her chose to leave her alive and understood.
Why It's Obscure
Plenty of enemies tried to kill Nebula. Only one looked inside her head first, and he could not go through with it.

Nebula's rebuilt body does the talking in the first frame — the cybernetic eye and cranial implants are unmistakable — and Firelord arrives in full herald flame in the second.
