The shapeshifter's family tree hides two sons from a ruined future timeline, Earth-13729, introduced in X-Men: Battle of the Atom #1 (2013). The elder is Charles Xavier II, a bald, telepathic schemer who leads a future Brotherhood — and his father is Professor Charles Xavier himself. Mystique conceived the boy while wearing the face of Moira MacTaggert, then gave birth in that borrowed shape and left the infant behind in tears.
The younger son is Raze Darkhölme, fathered by Wolverine. Raze inherited a working blend of both parents: his mother's shapeshifting, refined past her own limits, plus his father's healing factor and claws. He could even shift his scent, the one tell that normally lets Wolverine sniff out an impostor, which made him the perfect infiltrator against his own father.
Raze's resentment curdled into the darkest entry in the family ledger. In that future he murdered Mystique, then assumed her appearance and lived in her place undetected for years. Xavier II eventually exposed the imposture, recruited his half-brother, and the two sons of Raven Darkhölme built a Brotherhood dedicated to undoing everything their fathers stood for.
Why It's Obscure
