SINISTER SECRETLY GREW A MUTANT WEAPON FROM CYCLOPS AND JEAN GREY'S DNA TO BETRAY HIS OWN MASTER — AND SIGNED IT WITH HIS OWN NAME!
The Featured Fact

In the Age of Apocalypse timeline, Mister Sinister served the tyrant Apocalypse in public and plotted against him in the laboratory. His treason had a growth vat. Combining genetic material taken from his two favourite obsessions, Cyclops and Jean Grey, Sinister engineered a child designed to mature into a telepath and telekinetic powerful enough to kill the master he smiled at every day.

He even signed the work. The boy's first name, Nate, was lifted from Sinister's own birth name, Nathaniel, while the surname honoured his genetic mother: Nate Grey. Aged rapidly in secret and hidden away from the regime's breeding pens, the experiment was meant to stay in storage until Sinister personally chose the moment to spend him.

The weapon walked out of the arsenal early. During one of his quiet raids freeing prisoners, Cyclops released the boy, with neither of them aware that, in the only sense the laboratory recognised, they were father and son. Years later Nate confronted his maker, learned precisely what he had been built to do, announced that he was nobody's project, and battered Sinister bloody before flying off to pick his own targets.

Why It's Obscure

A servant's secret weapon, grown from the two bloodlines he trusted most and lost to a jailbreak he never saw coming.

Earth-295
The timeline — in the Age of Apocalypse, Sinister wears the loyal servant's mask for years while his real loyalty sits growing in a vat.
The recipe
Summers plus Grey — the two genetic lines Sinister had stalked for a century in the main timeline, combined directly this time, with no courtship required.
The signature
Nate — Nathaniel Essex named his creation after himself and his genetic mother; even his secret weapons carry a maker's mark.
The escape
The jailbreak — Cyclops freed the boy during a raid on the pens, unknowingly releasing his own genetic son into the world ahead of schedule.
The refusal
Nobody's project — told he was built to kill a tyrant, Nate's first independent act was to beat his creator half to death and leave.
