Today's Fact
The Living Vampire's strangest lab report: immunizing monster-hunters against a hunger virus from another reality.
When the Hunger Virus — the zombie plague from a parallel Earth — started leaking into Earth-616, the reality-watch agency A.R.M.O.R. handed the problem to the one biochemist who understood blood-borne horror from the inside. In Marvel Zombies 4 #1 (2009), by Fred Van Lente and Kev Walker, Morbius unveiled a working vaccine against the virus and inoculated a new Midnight Sons team with it: Werewolf by Night, Jennifer Kale and Daimon Hellstrom.
The vaccine worked by making zombies literally explode — Morbius had engineered an oxidizing bacteria keyed to the infected. Deployed against a shipload of zombified Men-Fish, it detonated its targets beautifully. Then it kept going: the formula mutated the virus instead of killing it, aerosolizing the plague into a toxic cloud that began zombifying everything the rain touched on the island of Taino.
Morbius spent the rest of the series cleaning up his own cure, and the save came from his oldest specialty — monster biology. Realizing the virus held Jack Russell's human half but not his wolf, he had Jennifer Kale summon a full moon so the Werewolf form could burn the infection out, then helped force the Hunger itself into a single contained host.
Why It's Obscure
A vampire walks into a zombie outbreak carrying the cure — and nearly becomes its Patient Zero.
