Getting murdered did not end M.O.D.O.K.'s employment at A.I.M. — it changed his job description. After the Serpent Society completed its contract on him, the Society's members fished his body back out of the morgue and delivered it to A.I.M. as proof of death. A.I.M.'s Scientist Supreme looked at the cooling giant head and saw not a casualty but an asset: kept technically alive on life support, M.O.D.O.K.'s vegetative brain still worked beautifully as a supercomputer.
His successor's brother had grander plans. Yorgon Tykkio, sibling of the reigning Scientist Supreme, stole the body and reactivated it as a remote-controlled combat drone — the dead founder of modern A.I.M., flown like a kite by a middle manager with a sibling rivalry. Yorgon's chosen demonstration target was Iron Man, because nothing proves you outrank your brother like puppeting a corpse at a founding Avenger.
The demonstration closed the account permanently. In Iron Man Vol. 1 #205 (1986), the drone-M.O.D.O.K. was outmatched, and Yorgon's last-ditch attempt to take Iron Man down with him instead blew M.O.D.O.K.'s body to smithereens. The Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing had already been replaced, assassinated, exhumed, and repurposed; the explosion simply made the paperwork final.
Why It's Obscure
A.I.M. fired him, killed him, then kept the body on payroll.
