For more than three decades Marvel's family tree listed two of its oldest Avengers as the Master of Magnetism's children. One sentence from Wanda Maximoff deleted the entry.

The Featured Fact

The paternity was itself a slow-burn reveal: hints in Avengers #185–187 (1979) hardened into fact in Vision and the Scarlet Witch #4 (1982), when Magneto came forward as the father of the twins Wanda and Pietro Maximoff, born to his lost wife Magda on Wundagore Mountain.

Then came Avengers & X-Men: AXIS #7 (2014). A morally inverted Scarlet Witch, fighting beside her brother against Magneto, cast a curse meant to strike down everyone of her bloodline. Pietro reeled from the spell. Magneto, standing in the same blast, felt nothing at all — because no blood tie existed for the magic to follow.

The follow-up run of Uncanny Avengers (2015) filled in the replacement history: the twins were the Maximoffs' own children, kidnapped as infants and experimented on by the High Evolutionary, who disguised his handiwork by letting the world believe them mutants — and, eventually, Magneto's heirs.

Why It's Obscure

Thirty years of Father's Day stories in the House of M rest on a genealogy Marvel formally withdrew, yet the family kept behaving like one anyway.

1982

A retcon undone by a retcon — Magneto had not debuted as the twins' father either; the 1982 reveal rewrote two decades of stories, and the 2014 reveal rewrote the rewrite.

The test

Magic as a DNA kit — Wanda's bloodline curse remains the strangest paternity test in comics: it felled the brother in the room and left the supposed father standing untouched.

Krakoa

Family by choice, on the record — on Krakoa the twins and Magneto still treated one another as kin, and Wanda's bond with him anchored The Trial of Magneto (2021) despite the missing bloodline.

Polaris

One daughter kept the surname honest — Lorna Dane's paternity, settled separately after 44 years of teasing, survived the AXIS purge untouched, leaving Magneto with exactly one confirmed child.
