In Uncanny X-Men #160 (1982), the X-Men fought the sorcerer Belasco in his realm of Limbo and won back little Illyana Rasputina, the younger sister of Colossus. As the team escaped, Belasco snatched at the child — and Kitty Pryde lunged back through the closing portal and hauled her free by main strength.
The hand Kitty pulled out did not belong to a seven-year-old. Illyana emerged a teenager, roughly seven years older than the girl who had vanished moments earlier, because time inside Limbo does not queue politely behind Earth time. For the X-Men the separation lasted heartbeats; for Illyana it had lasted most of a childhood.
What filled those stolen years stayed hidden for over a year of publication. The four-issue Magik limited series (1983–84) finally opened the locked room: Belasco's tutoring, a warped older Storm as her white-magic teacher, the forging of her soul into a sword, and her eventual victory over the demon who had stolen her — all of it lived in the gap between two panels of a single rescue.
Why It's Obscure
One rescue, two clocks — and only one of them was running at human speed.
